- Miss Marion Pageant: Participating in this pageant alone has taught me great discipline, true grit, and love for my community. This was my 2nd year competing in this pageant, which allowed me to showcase my strengths and overcome my weaknesses.
- 3rd Year of School: It was the start of being in the actual nursing program. I was excited, scared, and overwhelmed all in one emotion. We were required to buy iPads for class, background checks for clinical, drug tests, white scrubs, white shoes, clinical bag, stethoscope, etc. The list never stopped, but I was ready to go and start a new academic year!
- Tapped: Rho Lambda: Rho Lambda is a UC honorary that stands for "Panhellenic Leadership". I was honored to interview where I was able to express my commitment to bettering women and furthering the UC Greek Community. Being surrounded by women with similar goals as I do allows me to learn, grow, and collaborate with other leaders of the Panhellenic community.
- Homecoming Game: Prior to the game, I was nominated to be Homecoming Queen, voted by the student body to be in the Top 10, then interviewed to UC leaders/alumni to be in the Homecoming Court. I was honored to be a 3rd year and have the opportunity to go through the Homecoming Court experience of being in the parade, being on the field, and watching the game from a closer perspective than the student section.
- Peter Block Panel: Reading Peter Block's book in one of my Honors courses, Community: The Structure of Belonging, and then finally listening to him speak and meeting him was an amazing feeling. This man has inspired me to be an active community member in any community that I become a part of.
- Rho Gamma Director Interview: I saw myself as an active member in my own chapter, but I wanted to go further than that and help other chapters out as well. I decided to interview for a Rho Gamma Director position that would allow me to be in charge of Recruitment 2014. Little did I realize that preparing for my interview allowed me to reflect on a large scale of my commitment to Greek Life. I received the position and I am so excited to begin the journey of "giving up my letters so others can find theirs".
- Honors/Ono Luncheon: Hearing Mr. Chris Lu, who has served as President Obama's Assistant, speak about the importance of government and community allowed me to discover my own path in life of eventually serving as a university administrator. Mr. Chris Lu then spoke with a group of Asian American students and went in more detail about being a minority student. He told us stories of his journey through life and indicated that his career is not over. His words made me even more proud to be a part of the asian community.
- 2014 Diversity Games: The Diversity Games are my founding event at UC. They allow for students to interact with one another, learn from one another, and network, by initiating games that are similar to the Amazing Race. This was my second time coordinating this event, and even though I thought I wouldn't, I was able to learn more about myself, organization, and others.
- AMBITION President: AMBITION, or Advancing Minorities By Inspiring and Transforming them Into Outstanding Nurses, is an organization that I hold near to my heart. The nursing profession strives to build diversity to better serve patients. The success of minority students within their future professions is the mission of this organization. Becoming president has allowed me to really take hold of the situation and provide a fellow minority with the tools for success.
- Miss Marion HS Tour: This tour was a personal choice to take part in. I wanted to not only promote the pageant, but be a role model to students in the Marion school systems. I wanted to briefly touch on pride, confidence, and community. Marion is a small town of 40,000 people. I understand the hardships that these students face. I wanted to give these students insight into their future and possibly college.
- Honors Ambassador: The Honors Program has given me opportunities to learn, grow, and succeed. I am grateful to be chosen to be a part of an organization that truly strives to build holistic leaders in every field. I enjoy the advisors, the events, the programs, and courses. I wanted to become an ambassador to help this program flourish. I was proud to be chosen to help the program grow so that it can give the future students to come the same opportunity that it has given me - knowledge and a home.
- Job Shadow Tamara: Tamara was my Spring 2014 clinical instructor. She was a great role model to look up to in the nursing profession. She graduated from UC and is now going into UC's CRNA Program. She was never easy on us in clinical, but she was the force behind my advanced learning. I was happy to have the opportunity to see her in action in her work in the Neurology ICU. She has provided me with a drive to succeed in the classroom and in clinical to become a nurse as good as her.
- External Holdover SG: This position would allow me to change reigns from focusing on my own initiatives to facilitating growth within Student Government's members. I oversee about 30 Cabinet directors with this position where I help them succeed in their ideas to better UC. I am held to a higher standard on the Executive Board, and serve as a role model to other SG members. Running for this position was nerve wrecking. I had a 3 minute speech in front of my peers, senators, where they went into deliberation and chose the new External Holdover, myself. I am excited to serve SG and UC in this capacity and not only help other grow, but myself as well!
- HESI Testing: The HESI is the Health Education Systems Entrance exams. These exams have to be taken after the competition of a nursing course to indicate your status on passing the NCLEX (National Council Licensure Exam- Registered Nurse). The HESI is online and indicates your knowledge. Similar to the ACT, students do not typically study for hours to prepare for the exam. Instead, these exams are to show if you have studied for your course in the past. I was excited to find out that I scored a great grade. It confirmed my choice in career and helped me realize that my studying and hard work has truly paid off.
- Honors Graduation: My best friend, Joe Blizzard, was graduating at the Honors Graduation. He invited me to come for this celebration. I have been to an Honors Graduation in 2012 when my sister graduated, but this graduation was different and touched me in a different way. I knew most of the graduates in passing, class, or organizations. Seeing their accomplishments and hearing them speak gave me a drive to continue my work at UC so that I can have my own unique story of my UC Honors experience.
